There are some places that don’t just welcome you; they transport you.
On our recent family trip to northern Sicily, we found ourselves in Cefalù -a stunning coastal town that feels as though it has been frozen in time.

As a photographer, I’m always searching for that perfect blend of light, texture, and authenticity, and Cefalù delivered it all!

One of the most refreshing aspects of our visit was how local it felt. While many Italian hotspots are teeming with international crowds, Cefalù felt like a hidden gem.

Most of our fellow beachgoers were Italians enjoying their own slice of paradise. From the narrow, cobbled alleys of the Old Town to the medieval charm of the local boutiques and trattorias, every corner of this town feels intentional and historic.
If you’re planning a trip to this Sicilian sanctuary, here is my guide on where to stay, what to see, and how to make the most of your time.
Where to Stay: A Room with a (Famous) View
We stayed at Casa Sul Mare, which we booked through Booking.com. It was absolutely perfect for our family of three.

The room offered a view that I could have photographed for days, but it also came with some Hollywood history! As it turns out, we weren’t the only ones who loved the location; the apartment has hosted crews from The White Lotus and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Knowing the Indiana Jones crew stayed in our exact apartment added such a fun layer to the experience. To top it off, our host was incredibly accommodating, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.

Things to Do & See in Cefalù
The Duomo di Cefalù
Built between 1131 and 1240, this Norman-style cathedral is the heart of the town. The architecture is breathtaking, but the atmosphere is what really sticks with you. I highly recommend grabbing a seat at one of the restaurants or cafes in the square facing the cathedral to soak it all in.

Hiking La Rocca di Cefalù
Standing tall behind the village is La Rocca, a 268-meter rock that practically dares you to climb it. Pro Tip: Learn from my mistake! I tried to head up in my Birkenstocks and was refused entry. The park requires shoes with a heel strap or sneakers for safety.
The park is open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM in the summer, and the €5 entry fee is well worth it. The access point is on the west side of the hill, and the panoramic photos you’ll get of the town below are unparalleled.

Molo di Cefalù (The Pier)
For a bit of local flavor, head to the pier. It provides hours of entertainment - from diving and snorkeling to just watching the fish in their natural habitat.

If you want to feel like a local, rent a beach spot right in the thick of it. You’ll hear the rhythmic chants of "Coco Bella, Coco Bella, Señora..." - a sound you’ll soon associate with pure relaxation!

The Boardwalk
Take a stroll southwest of the Old Town toward the beach and boardwalk. It’s a slightly different vibe from the narrow alleys -perfect for a sunset walk through the various restaurants and shops.

A Taste of Cefalù
You can’t visit Sicily without indulging. My advice? Don’t leave without trying the Arancini (fried rice balls), the fresh seafood, and of course, the gelato and pizza.
Our Favorite Spots:
Incredible views of both La Rocca and the sea.

Hands down one of the best views in town to accompany a great cocktail.

The absolute perfect spot to watch the world go by with an Aperol Spritz in hand.

A great change of pace if you want something fresh and modern.

Excellent choices for a memorable meal with a sunset view to die for.

The perfect pitstop for your caffeine fix.

Getting Around
If you’re looking to explore further, the train from Cefalù to Palermo is easy and affordable. It’s about €7.10 for adults and €3.70 for kids (one way), making for a perfect day trip to the capital.

Cefalù is a place that slows your heart rate and sharpens your senses. Whether you’re there for the history, the food, or the photography, it’s a town that stays with you long after you’ve left its shores.
