Jaipur, famously known as the Pink City, is one of India’s most captivating destinations. As the royal capital of Rajasthan, it is world-renowned for its majestic hilltop forts, opulent palaces, vibrant markets, and distinctive terracotta-pink architecture.

If you are planning a 3 nights in Jaipur itinerary, this photographer's guide captures the very best of the city in two full days of exploration.

For me, Jaipur was an absolute photographer's dream. The juxtaposition of regal heritage, bustling street scenes, and everyday life (including playful monkeys along the ancient stone walls) offers endless visual inspiration around every corner.

Essential Travel Tips for Your 3 Nights in Jaipur Itinerary

Arriving by Train

We arrived from Agra via train (approx. 4 hours). Be sure to book the air-conditioned class for a more comfortable journey. We booked tickets in advance via 12GO (or you can organize all of your overland travel with Jaipur Taxi Tour - see 'Jaipur Tour Guide' section below)

The chaotic energy and vendors calling out "Chai, Chai!" down the aisles can feel overwhelming at first, but it is an authentic India travel experience you won't want to miss. (Note: Jaipur also has an international airport, which we used for our flight to Mumbai).

Getting Around

While traditional tuk-tuks are everywhere, we consistently used Uber to book rides. It eliminates language barriers, sets exact drop-off points, and saves you from continuous price negotiations in the heat. Easily download it to you phone and you'll be all set.

Weather & Timing

Because of our son's school schedule, we visited during the summer (the rainy season). While daytime temperatures reached a scorching 105°F (40°C), the evenings cooled down beautifully. October - March is typcally a great time to visit when the temperatures are a bit more friendly.

We were able to dine al fresco every single night, which added so much magic to our 3 nights there. We were also lucky enough to encounter only one brief rain shower during our entire stay.

Jaipur Tour Guide - Jaipur Taxi Tour

I would highly highly recommend that you get in touch with Farooq Ali at Jaipur Taxi Tour when arranging all tours, not only in Jaipur, but all over India too. You can also contact him directly through WhatsApp at +91 9829559215

We initially found them via this specific Get Your Guide tour when booking the half day Jaipur tour which was $37 USD for a private car and dedicated guide. Bargain!

Farooq (the driver) and Abdul (the guide) were incredible company and totally flexible with our time, allowing us to do exactly what we wanted to do, and more. By the end of the day, we were sad to say goodbye.

Day 1: Guided City Tour & Historic Landmarks

To make the most of the first full day of our 3 nights in Jaipur itinerary, we booked a private half-day city tour. It was worth every penny - our guide and driver were wonderfully flexible, provided cold drinks, and went far beyond our scheduled time.

Jaipur Wholesale Flower Market

To be honest, we were on the fence about adding the flower market to our itinerary. However, the atmosphere was electrifying and authentic. The fragrance of fresh marigolds and roses mixed with the sights and sounds of the bustling morning crowd made it a highlight for photography.

Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds)

Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, this iconic five-story palace features a honeycomb façade crafted from pink sandstone, complete with 953 small windows called jharokhas.

For the best panoramic view and photographs of the façade, grab a fresh chai tea across the street on the rooftop terrace at Tattoo Cafe & Lounge.

Amber Fort (Amer Palace)

Perched high on a hill overlooking Maota Lake, Amber Fort was our absolute favorite place in Jaipur. Known for its sweeping courtyards, Rajput architecture, and ornate mirror work, it offers endless composition opportunities.

Guides typically park near Maota Lake. From there, you can walk, ride an open-air Indian Jeep, or take an elephant ride. We opted for the Jeep ride, and quick ascent in the 105°F heat! Skip the elephant rides and visit an accredited sanctuary outside the city instead.

Entry is roughly $11 USD per adult (cash in Indian Rupees required, and note that on-site ATMs are often out of service).

Jal Mahal (Water Palace)

Sitting serenely in the middle of Man Sagar Lake against the backdrop of the Aravalli hills, Jal Mahal looks floating on water. While you cannot go inside the palace, the lakeside embankment is perfect for quick photographs.

Amer Stepwell

This stepwell, locally known as Panna Meena ka Kund, was built in the 16th century. The 8 storey water-harvesting structure is famous for its geometric staircase patterns and striking visual symmetry.

Gaitor Ki Chhatris & Local Chai Break

Our guides took us to a quiet local stall for authentic Indian chai tea—so delicious we ordered seconds!

Afterward, we visited Gaitor Ki Chhatris (entry ~$1 USD). Derived from "Gaye Ka Thor" (a place of repose for the departed).

This serene location houses intricately carved marble cenotaphs dedicated to Jaipur’s former rulers. It’s far quieter than the main tourist spots, making it a peaceful sanctuary to relax and take your time.

Day 2: City Palace & Royal Architecture

On our second full day, we set out on our own to explore the grand Jaipur City Palace. Navigating on your own can feel a bit daunting, but it is entirely doable - just have a bit of patience when crossing the busy streets!

Jaipur City Palace Highlights

The palace complex features an impressive blend of Rajput, Mughal, and European architecture with grand courtyards, landscaped gardens, and ornate gateways.

The Peacock Gate

Don't miss the famous Peacock Gate in the Pritam Niwas Chowk, celebrated for its intricate mosaic craft and vivid peacock details.

Be sure to also stop by the museum atelier gift shop. It features a beautifully curated, colorful bookstore filled with regional art titles.

Additional Things to See in Jaipur

If you have extra time during your stay, our guides also highly recommended checking out Patrika Gate (famous for its vibrant, hand-painted arches), Galta Ji Temple (the historic Monkey Temple), or one of the local elephant or leopard sanctuaries located outside the city walls.

Where to Stay in Jaipur

Padma Haveli Jaipur (Padmaa)

We stayed at Padma Haveli, a historic 18th-century family haveli located within the historic walled city that was beautifully restored and converted into a 15-suite boutique hotel in 2025.

From the plunge pool and rooftop deck to the wonderful vegetarian cuisine and candlelit courtyard dinners with live traditional music, every detail was perfection. They even treated us to a night tour in the hotel’s custom pink tuk-tuk!

Unforgettable Dining & Drinks

Bar Palladio

I’ll admit, I was a bit reluctant when my husband booked an Italian restaurant and cocktail bar in the middle of India, but Bar Palladio was an absolute MUST-VISIT.

Designed with hand-painted blue-and-white floral motifs, tented ceilings, jali screens, and romantic garden seating, this place was magical. Dine outside under the patio string lights, order craft cocktails, and say hello to the maître d' (ask him about his soccer career!).

Once Upon a Time at the Bagh

Located on the outskirts of town, this open-air venue is magical in the evening when the historic architecture and surrounding mountains are lit up and tables are set among the historic surroundings.

Our perfect 3 nights in Jaipur itinerary in Rajasthan left an incredible impression. India is intense, beautiful, and fairly bonkers at times, to be entirely honest! The stark interplay between centuries-old sandstone architecture, delicate jali lattice screens, and the vibrant rhythms of daily life inspired a brand new series of fine art prints.

I am thrilled to introduce my new India Collection - a curated selection of minimalist, architectural black-and-white photographs capturing the soul of Jaipur, the Taj Mahal, and beyond.
